2018-6/25-7/31 Pocket Door

I made a Pocket Door for the bathroom. I did it while I was working on the ceiling because I wanted the upper support for the mechanism to be installed before the ceiling went in.

At the top, we have a piece of wood sandwiched between two drawer slides, sandwiched between two plywood panels. Same situation at the bottom, for a total of 4 drawer slides holding up the door.
This will all be hidden inside the wall when it’s done.
At this point, each panel moves independently of the other, so they need to be attached in some way.
I cut 4 pieces of wood to the width of the space between the panels. Then, they were glued and clamped in place overnight.
This also helped with the rigidity of the door. The spacing between the boards is so I can install the handles and pulls for the door without cutting into the supports.
First, the inner panel goes in. It is secured very well at the top, but at the bottom, it was a bit tough to get it secure. I used pocket holes to do it.
A 3/4 inch plywood exterior wall goes floor to ceiling. It’s thicker for more rigidity, so people can lean on it without inhibiting the pocket door mechanism.
Cut the base to allow access to the space below the bathroom. TP and other toiletries will go in here.
Installed an edge piece by screwing into the supports. The screw heads will be hidden by felt bumpers so the door doesn’t slam.
Trim on the edges of the plywood on either side of the door. The rectangle in the middle is a recessed pocket door pull.
Door closed.
Julene masked the trim and painted the wall. Also notice the extra 3/4 inch plywood piece directly below the entrance so the wall continues all the way to the end. Little details…
Last piece of the puzzle was a latch (not pictured). You can see the felt bumpers. I also completed the ceiling in the bathroom.
